Toilet Thiruvizha – Tenkasi is a people-powered sanitation movement by the Smart Sanitation Foundation to build a cleaner, healthier, and open defecation-free Tenkasi.

Together with citizens, students, institutions, local bodies, volunteers, NGOs, and CSR partners, we are creating clean, safe, and well-maintained toilets for everyone.

Why We Begin in Tenkasi?

A personal journey that became a movement for health, dignity, and human rights.

Growing Up Without a Toilet

Kali.K (Loo_Kali), one of the directors of Smart Sanitation Foundation, grew up in Tenkasi without a toilet at home. Open defecation was not a choice — it was the only option.

A Vision for Change

That experience shaped his vision to transform sanitation from a basic necessity into a movement for health, dignity, safety, and human rights.

Community Challenges

Many communities still face poor sanitation, open defecation, inadequate hygiene awareness, and poorly maintained public toilets.

A Movement is Born

Toilet Thiruvizha brings together citizens, students, institutions, government, NGOs, volunteers, and CSR partners to create lasting behaviour change.
